I think plenty of gamers underrate it and many who do, have only played one entry I'm sure. As far as critics, they may overrate entries. I feel the ones I've played (NSMBU > NSMB Wii > NSMB 2) are mostly deserving of their critical receptions though. I'll start by saying, platformers are FAR from my favorite genre. Okay, onward. I have only played 1 of the 5 mentioned in that dudes list, and it was the Wii one, and I didn't like it at all, but that was several years ago.

The others I didn't give a chance simply cause I wasn't interested in a mario game, not even on 3DS. I wouldn't mind that kind of game, but it would need to be on Switch at this point, and I doubt they make one. I just got too much other stuff to be playing them games, and I bet they are all 20+ dollars, making it even less likely I ever do, especialy the Wii U ones unless I come across one in next 5-10 years.
